Trauma or Training: Growing Up in an Anxious World

Anxiety is a mental illness that is debilitating for many people. Trauma experienced in life often leads to a multitude of mental health challenges, including anxiety. Unfortunately, family members of the traumatized often continue this cycle of anxiety due to behaviors learned during their childhood. Anxiety becomes a way of life, through lessons taught by caregivers, creating a never-ending cycle.

In the Laureate Conference Center (on the campus of Laureate Psychiatric Hospital) in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on April 25, 2024, Bright Tomorrows was pleased to facilitate a seminar workshop on this theme with Jannette McCormick as our guest presenter. Jannette’s presentation explored how the anxiety cycle begins and where it stops; common mental strongholds that fuel the cycle; tools to overcome these strongholds; and, the value of each one sharing their own
story.
